Easy Pizza Party Activities for Kids
Pizza parties are a classic way to celebrate with kids—but once the pizza is ordered, you still need something to keep everyone entertained!
Whether you're planning a birthday party, classroom celebration, playdate, or just a pizza-themed afternoon at home, these easy pizza party activities are simple to set up, fun for a range of ages, and don't require a house full of complicated supplies.
The best part? You can mix and match a few depending on how much time and space you have.
1. Set Up a Build-Your-Own Pizza Station
Turn lunch or dinner into part of the entertainment with a DIY pizza-making station.
Start with individual pizza dough, naan, pita bread, or another small flatbread and set out bowls of sauce, shredded cheese, pepperoni, olives, vegetables, and other toppings your kids enjoy.
Let each child build their own pizza before an adult puts it in the oven.
Parent tip: Put toppings into small bowls or muffin tins so kids can easily reach everything without crowding around large packages.
You can even give the pizzas silly names before baking them. A pepperoni-and-olive masterpiece might become The Pepperoni Princess or The Monster Pizza.
2. Go on a Pizza-Themed Scavenger Hunt
A scavenger hunt is an easy way to get kids moving—especially if you've been sitting down for pizza or cake.
Hide pizza-related objects or pictures around the room, backyard, or party space. Depending on what you already have at home, kids could search for:
-
A toy pizza slice
-
A chef hat
-
A wooden spoon
-
A pizza cutter
-
A red tomato
-
A piece of pretend cheese
-
A pizza-themed children's book
-
A picture of a pizza topping
For younger children, use pictures instead of written clues. Older kids can solve simple riddles that lead them from one object to the next.
Darling Books idea: Hide a copy of Pizzarella or The Pizza Slice Man as the final treasure and transition straight into story time when they find it.
3. Decorate Your Own Pizza Box
Ask your local pizza shop if they'll sell or give you a few clean, unused pizza boxes, or order small plain boxes ahead of the party.
Set out crayons, washable markers, stickers, and colored pencils and let each child create their own pretend pizza restaurant.
They can add:
-
A restaurant name
-
Their own logo
-
Pictures of their favorite toppings
-
A pretend menu
-
A drawing of their dream pizza
If you're making individual pizzas, the boxes can even double as a way to carry leftovers home.
4. Design Your Dream Pizza
For an even easier craft, give each child a sheet of paper with a large pizza circle and let them draw their ultimate pizza.
Encourage silly toppings, too. Their pizzas don't have to be realistic!
Would they make a rainbow pizza? A candy pizza? A dinosaur pizza? A pizza covered entirely in cheese?
You can also cut toppings out of colored paper ahead of time and let younger kids glue them onto their pizzas.
This activity works especially well while you're waiting for food to arrive or while pizzas are baking.
5. Have a Pizza Story Time
After running around, give everyone a quieter activity with a pizza-themed story.
A book can also help bridge the gap between activities—especially with preschool and early elementary-age children who may need a little downtime.
For a fairy-tale twist, read Pizzarella, a funny Cinderella-inspired story featuring a Fairy Godfather, a magical pizza adventure, and even a salami slipper.
Or add The Pizza Slice Man, Darling Books' silly pizza-filled twist on The Gingerbread Man.
You can find the pizza-themed children's books from Darling Books here.
Party idea: Have the kids eat their pizza first, then gather everyone on a rug or around the table for story time while they're finishing dessert.
6. Play Pizza Trivia
You don't need an elaborate game to keep kids entertained. Write a handful of pizza questions on index cards and have children take turns answering them.
Try questions like:
-
What ingredient makes pizza sauce red?
-
Name three pizza toppings.
-
What shape is a traditional pizza?
-
What tool is used to slice a pizza?
-
What kind of cheese is commonly used on pizza?
-
Can you name a topping that starts with the letter P?
For younger children, skip factual trivia and turn it into a guessing game.
Ask questions such as, "Would you put strawberries on a pizza?" or "Which would you choose: pepperoni or pineapple?"
There don't have to be winners. The silly answers are usually half the fun.
7. Try a Pizza Slice Relay Race
If you have enough space, burn off some party energy with a pizza relay.
Cut large pizza-slice shapes from cardboard, construction paper, or craft foam. Divide the kids into teams and have them carry their "pizza" from one side of the yard or room to the other.
Make it harder by asking them to:
-
Balance the pizza on a paper plate
-
Carry it with one hand
-
Walk backward
-
Weave around cones
-
Deliver the pizza to a pretend customer
Keep it playful rather than competitive, especially with younger children.
8. Set Up a Pretend Pizzeria
Save a few clean pizza boxes, aprons, menus, paper plates, and pretend food and turn a corner of the party into a make-believe pizza restaurant.
Kids can take turns being the chef, server, customer, and delivery driver.
For younger children, pretend play can keep them occupied surprisingly long—and unlike a structured party game, they can join or leave whenever they want.
A felt pizza play set is another easy addition if you already have one at home.
9. Send Everyone Home With a Pizza-Themed Activity
Instead of filling favor bags with lots of little toys, send kids home with something they can actually use.
A pizza coloring page, activity sheet, bookmark, sticker, or mini craft makes an easy party favor without adding much extra clutter.
You could even roll a coloring sheet and tie it with ribbon or tuck an activity page inside the pizza box they decorated earlier.
Keep Your Pizza Party Simple
You don't need to plan an activity for every minute of the party.
Pick two or three ideas that work for your child's age, leave some time for kids to simply eat and play, and don't worry if you don't get to everything.
A build-your-own pizza, a creative activity, and a funny pizza story can be more than enough for a memorable afternoon.
